The Endeavour is situated on a main road heading north east out of Chelmsford and appears to be a popular suburban local.

This was my last stop of the evening in Essex and proved to be my favourite pub of the day in Chelmsford. On my previous visits to Chelmsford, I've rejected the option to head out of the centre, as it's a fair trek. But judging on this visit, it's certainly a worthwhile diversion.

The pub has 3 small and cosy rooms. There are 2 entrance doors. At the far left is a strangely decorated room that was not being used during my visit. However, the other two rooms were both packed with locals doing a pub quiz, in addition to a dog or two. Saturday evening did seem a strange time to be hosting a quiz though.

Bar staff were friendly and I was greeted by 3 pumpclips - Bishop Nick Ridley's Rite, Nethergate Red Santa & Oakham Frozen Fresh Hop Citra. I opted for the Red Santa, which was a very enjoyable drink indeed, which I consumed whilst propping up the bar. Whilst there, it became apparent that another couple of handpulls to the side of the bar were also in operation, despite being unclipped. They were being used for Kent Nutcracker & Mighty Oak Wonky Donkey. Their pumpclips eventually appeared on the top of the other 3 handpulls!

Mince pies were available around the pub, but it was too busy for me to get one and I was still stuffed in any case from the various BBQ meats I'd tried in the Oddfellows Arms Smokehouse just down the road.

It's a bit out on a limb this one, but obviously very much supported by the local community. Chelmsford has some very good pubs and this one is certainly amongst them.

A great little two bar pub on the outskirts of Chelmsford.Usually 4 or 5 real ales are on tap and you are assured of a warm welcome.
