Decent enough place with friendly service. Greene King IPA and Abbot's on. The IPA was fine. Happy to have popped in for one!

Have to agree with Will, this is a hotel with a couple of bars. Have to say the staff are very friendly and if the ale selection was a bit more exciting l would rate it higher. They serve great food and the chicken Balti I had was excellent.

One of many nice old buildings in Braintree, this is clearly a hotel rather than a pub. There is a public bar, but all tables were taken up with diners - it seems very popular with the Saturday afternoon shopping set. I briefly explored the maze of rooms but found nothing that looked like an area where drinkers would be comfortable: standing, sitting or even leaning. Couple this with the fact that the beers on hand pump are confined to Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen, there are definitely better places for a drink even among Braintree's limited offerings.
