We picked this one out for a lunchtime stop on the way down to the south coast as it is a short detour off the A21.
A fine single roomed traditional village pub with an absolutely fabulous tiered external garden to the back which affords superb views over the Sussex countryside.
All four pumps were in operation with three ales and a cider available. Two ales from Harveys including a very passable Best and another locale which I failed to note.
There is quite a focus on the food menu which is understandable in a small off the track community pub such as this one and we enjoyed a couple of decent prawn sandwiches to go with the Harveys ale.
It is a dog friendly pub and there were a couple in complementing the locals taking up the bar stools on our visit. This is good to see , but unfortunately in this case there was an air of flatulent dog (and possibly owner too) that the staff and locals had clearly gone noseblind to. But fortunately we had a fine weather day and were able to utilise the superb garden.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Salehurst Halt

Very pleasant country pub in a hamlet near a stopping point on the former (and possibly to be reinstated) Rother Valley Railway. Typical tile-hung upper elevations, and a fine traditional interior managing to squeeze in a few tables (being used by diners when I visited) to supplement the stools around the 'L'-shaped bar counter. Split-level patio and grass beer garden, with the former having a vine-covered pergola. All four handpumps in use, offering the inevitable Harvey's (£3.80), Westerham Spirit of Kent, Cellar Head Spring Ale and a cider (one of 16 listed on a board, with many of the rest in boxed form).

This is a neat brick and tile built cottage by the church in a small rural community just away from the A21 and the bustling metropolis of Robertsbridge. Inside, traditional bare boards, low beams and open fires, together with an eclectic literary selection.
The Halt is renowned as a source of Dark Star beers, and today was no exception, with Hophead alongside Harveys Sussex Best, and Rudgate’s Ruby Mild, together with Biddenden Bushells Cider on handpump. The Hophead perhaps wasn’t at its peak:that wonderful citric hit seemed to be missing, but was still a grand beer. I hadn’t had the Rudgate’s Ruby Mild before, and was highly impressed with it; a luscious malty beer with a mouthful of dried fruit. A bit heavy for a traditional mild, but a classic all the same.
As a community pub, the Halt sources its food, as well as the beer, locally as far as possible. As a noted glutton, I found the beef pie very succulent, and the burgers looked good as well. I’m pleased to add that the beef comes from Sussex cattle. The rhubarb fool wasn’t bad, either.
There’s a pleasant garden , looking out over hopgardens in the Rother Valley. It seems to be a haven for dogs, though we left ours at home, it being the hottest day since last September. We’ll be back.
