Would juat like to say thankyou for steves comments as we had only just taken over the Bedfor Arms 4 weeks before his review. We now have two reals Charles Wells Eagle and the stronger Bombardier, and are planning a beer festival in the spring, watch this space!

The Bedford Arms is one of the seven still functioning pubs in the village of Toddington, just off Junction 12 of the M1,
It is the most southerly of the pubs and you have to travel the length of the High Street to get to it. But it’s worth a visit.
The Bedford Arms is a good looking stone building sitting some way back from the main road. Inside it is a two room pub of some character and history. As you walk through the main front door there is the main Bar room to the left and a smaller Lounge room to the right (which was not in operation on the early evening of my visit ). Both are Oak beamed and stone walled , with a large fireplace and the one in the Bar room has a large wood burning stove. There is a line of stools in front of the bar with the area by the bar in front of the fire place being for vertical drinking, and then the rest of the carpeted room has tables.
Although I didn’t eat, nearly every table was taken by people who were when I entered and the food menu is advertised as locally produced English food. This includes Baguettes for around £4.00 and then mains with a focus on a range of homemade pies for around £9.
There were also posters advertising forthcoming karaoke and Quiz nights
It’s a Charles wells house and there are two hand pumps on the bar. Both of these were dispensing CW Eagle at the time of my visit, so the choice wasn’t brilliant but fortunately it was a well kept pint.
It also benefits from a large car park and a massive garden out behind the pub, which I would guess is fully utilised in summer.
I found the Bedford Arms to be a friendly locals pub and, although it could do with a wider beer choice, if you are travelling the M1 it is fully recommended as a better food and drink alternative stop to the nearby motorway services.
