The Junction, Polegate

The Junction is a U shaped Greene King pub that has had the lounge and public bars knocked through at some stage, but it still retains a separate two bar feel. The right hand side would have been the old public bar and situated in here is a pool table, dartboard and table football. There is also a TV, but this was off when I visited on Thursday night a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t spot any advertisements for Sky Sports. The left hand side of the pub would have been the old lounge bar and it is still fairly quiet with some seating and not much else. The bar supports six hand pumps and although two of these were unused Ruddles, Abbot and two guest ales were available. There is also a standard draught selection and I though that the very friendly woman behind the bar poured an excellent Guinness.

There are some picnic tables behind a waist high fence outside at the front and the A-board gives the kitchen opening hours as lunchtimes and evenings everyday except on Mondays when it is only open for lunch. Also on Sundays there is a choice of roast dinners that are served from midday until 16:00. There is an advertised function room that is available for hire and the pub opens at midday everyday and has normal closing hours.

After finishing my crawl of the six pubs in Polegate I thought that this was the best one by quite a long way and it was certainly the busiest so the locals obviously have my good taste! When next in the area this will be my pub of choice as it is a good local’s boozer.
