Bucking Fastard left this review about Stratton House Hotel

A hotel with a front lounge open to all comers, with a raised restaurant to the right of the entrance with table service. There are sofas, arm chairs and tables with menus to the left of the entrance for less formal dining while the bar is in the centre of the room, along a rear wall. Two brick pillars break up the bar area and there are high tables and stools to pertch on,while the bar is surrounded by more stools,so you wont feel out of place just popping in for a beer. The door to the kitchen from the bar had been propped open on a hot lunchtime, but the waft of cooking smells into the lounge was very offputting.
The light patterned carpet and full length curtains, together with a tub full of twigs means there is nothing of note for pub tradtionalists. The four chrome handpumps were dispensing Skinner's Cornish Knocker,Buntingford Blueberry Fields,6X and a house
Landlords Choice which appeared good value at £2.20.That proved to be a schoolboy error on my part.On closer inspection of the handpump I noticed it was described as an IPA and had a ABV of 3.5%.In a near panic,my mind fixed on the possibility that this may be rebadged CW Eagle IPA and after a few sips that awful cloying Wells tang was in full evidence. If this was the landlord's choice, then discerning ale drinkers should give up all hope if entering here.Needless to say,I left most of my drink.
It's in the 2012 GBG ,maybe on the strength of an annual summer beer festival, but I would be wary of a return trip given the poor choice of ales that I experienced on my visit.
