I agree almost word for word with the previous review, and that is from almost 10 years ago. My beer also failed to clear - it seems like there's a decent beer in there struggling to get out. (Gun Brewery's Best Bitter 4.4%, NBSS 2.5, £5.70/pint.) Perhaps I could say the same thing about the pub, though surely they must be getting something right if they're still in business after almost a decade? (The toilets seem to have recovered from whatever was wrong when Paul was here in 2014, though they now seem to have become the victims of scruffy chic decor.)

Refurbished in typical Indigo style, so you'll recognise the formula if you've been to a few of theirs. Plenty of room inside, all the way around the large island bar. Space out the front if you want to observe the traffic on Dyke Road, and there's a patio out back as well.

On our Saturday afternoon visit, we noticed that a fair few tables had reservations for the evening, and a few more were being set out as we were having our drinks. It's good to know that your party can be accommodated, but this could discourage casual visitors.

Beers comprised 8 pumps (6 serving), all of them supporting both Sussex counties. Ours were a little hazy, though; the Langham Hip-Hop was a little tired but the 360 Pale coped ok. Keg taps go beyond the standard lagers to incorporate a few from Meantime, a Brewdog, a Blue Moon and an Orchard Pig cider.

The low mark I'm giving is not simply down to the hazy beer, though. The gents toilet, while incorporated in the tarting-up, was pretty wet under foot. I'm not sure whether it's preferable for that to be due to dodgy plumbing or a poor aim by earlier visitors. It's not a great advert either way.

The Good Companions is a big open plan pub with an island bar that is stocked with premium draught products. During my visit on Saturday evening three of the eight hand pumps were unused leaving Sussex Gold and Castle from Arundel Brewery and Hophead, Pale Ale and Partridge from Dark Star Brewery. There is an option for a beer bat which holds three third pint glasses and this sets one back £3.60 which is a little more than a pint. Food is served and the main dishes are priced around There are no televisions that I saw, but some loud music was playing that sat well for this pub on a Saturday night.
Outside the front of the pub is lots of covered seating that benefit from some heaters. There is also a large beer garden out the back with lots of covered booths and another large covered seating area. There is also a hut that looks as though it is used as a bar in the summer months when the garden is probably very popular.

I liked it in here and would have no problem returning.
