The pub name says it all,the ground floor bar is long and thin with the bar to one side in the middle, and a glass display cabinet with various deserts a feature as you enter. We didn't investigate the space on the first floor which wasn't operational on our lunchtime visit. You can quite comfortably just pop in for a pint ,and the welcome from behind the bar was friendly and informative, with samples given from the ale range to help make a decision. The ale choice is noted by ETA,with one of the six handpumps unclipped.Ale quality was good,so make sure you include this on any real ale tour of the town.

Previously The Giant Pot, and before that The Terminus, this very pleasant small town pub and eatery has re-invented itself as an English-style bistro selling, primarily and surprisingly, pies. There is a single wooden-floored bar and Sparan decor which give ti a traditional feel. They do other food as well, but the eponymous theme prevails. We didn't eat but did sample the ales. There were 6 on altogether: Ghost Train and Southern Belle from Cottage Brewery, London Gold and Bitter from Young's plus Landlord and another one I forgot to note. Samples were readily available, and I went for a pint of the Southern Belle which was in beautiful condition. Proximity to the railway station makes it an excellent place to start or finish a crawl (which is exactly what we did), and I'd be delighted to come back for a pie and a pint any time.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Giant Pot

The Giant Pot is next door to the Somerset Hotel and opposite the train station.
This pub looks very small from the outside compared to the buildings either side of it.
Once inside there is one room that has bare boards and comfy seating there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Flowers IPA which was a decent drink the other beer was Bass.
I thought this was a decent comfortable pub to have a drink in.

Pub visited 24 August 2000.
