A large country house with a car park and garden at the front. There is a children's play area by the entrance to the drive, and there are plenty of seats and tables in the garden, which is pleasant and surrounded by quiet countryside. You enter through a foyer with slot machines next to the conservatory, and there is a dining room to the right and the main bar to the left. The conservatory is another dining room, and there is a comfortable seating area with a few sofas, some tables and an open fire by the bar counter. A games room is on the other side of the bar; this has a pool table, dartboard, a tropical aquarium and gaming machines. Children are not allowed in the games room, dogs are allowed – encouraged, in fact – in the bar. The staff were very welcoming and made a point of talking to the dogs. Food was reasonable and well cooked, and there was a minimalist wine menu, nothing exciting. Two ales on draft were Yeovil Lynx and Adnams Fat Sprat, well kept and enjoyable. A good solid pub, worth a lunchtime visit if in the area but possibly a bit dull in the evenings.

This country free house is set back from the road, with a well tended traditional garden in front and children’s playground to the side. The bar is along the rear of the pub, with a drinking area around it, with a pool table, dartboard and a couple of fruit machines to the left, and restaurant areas to the right and in the conservatory to the front. I was the first customer at 11 sharp one morning this week, having navigated past some cleaning that had presumably run over time, and found some real are pumps here: two banks of three and four pumps, each with Doombar clip facing forward, Butcombe clip reversed, and St. Austell Trelawny at half cock. My enquiry about the status of the Trelawny resulted in a decent quality pint at £3.40, after some had been pulled through. Plenty of pump clips adorn the beams, suggesting a changeable ale range.
The menu is quite extensive, including pub classics at £8.95, some grills and other meals dearer, and some cheaper ‘deals of the day’ displayed on a specials board. This was a welcoming place to stop for a drink, though has an obvious food focus. I’d be happy enough to drop in again.

My partner and i visited this pub 15/05/10 after it being recommended. On arrival the amount of bird feeders hanging from an outside balcony concerned me (vermin), walking into the bar area at 1.45pm and waiting til 1.57pm to be served being told we had 2 mins to order food was off putting but both hungry we ordered 2 cheese ploughmans. We made our way into the conservatry and waited for our meals...whilst sitting there our eyes started wandering and my partner noticed the cold wax on table from a very sad looking candle centrepiece, our eyes then moved on to the dried on gravy on a placemat, then onto the salt and crumbs on the windowsill obviously been flicked there upon slack table cleaning, then onto the absolutely FILTHY windows and slats of the conservtary blinds i was slowly loosing my appetite. Eventually our ploughmans arrive..no apple, sweet pickle or coleslaw(that is what makes a Ploughmans Lunch), a abnormally huge chunk of cheddar with a small part of plastic wrapping still attached and a piece of fluff and the chunk of brown bread had seen better days. We left our meals on the table and went to complain (passing 2 prawn jacket potatoes also being returned to the kitchen by another table)the response to our complaint was that of 'uncaring' and no apology given or explanation to the 'filthy' conditions..On our way out the door to exit glass and brass plate were also covered in dirty finger marks! If the part of the pub for public viewing is in the filthy condition i dread to think what it is like 'behind the scences'.. we then went on in to Wareham and had a much better pub experiance..
