On a visit to Corfe castle during Half Term we thought of lunch, but all the pubs / cafes etc were heaving.

Thanks to Pub Signman we decided to follow his guide, and went to the Halfway Inn, which turned out to be a good choice and very much better than what seemed to be on offer in Corfe Castle

As described, large country pub, large car park, large outside seating areas, fenced kiddies play area, spotless toilets, polite & prompt service, very good value food, three hand pull real ales, plenty of room inside. There is nothing to dislike

I had Tanglefoot [twice, hic], my companion had coffee, pronounce excellent & far better than the National Trust offering at Corfe Castle

Food, we opted for filled baguettes, freshly baked [I guess part baked type], very good value, and ample for lunch, option with chips for 99p extra

Menu is varied, and includes normal pub grub stalwarts like fish & chips

All in all, worth a visit

PG tip, if eating / drinking el fresco, walk through bars to the rear & use the small but cosy outside area, quieter & kid free on our visit [see picture]

It seems, and rightly so, a very popular choice

Pub SignMan left this review about Halfway Inn

Situated halfway between Corfe Castle and Wareham, this pub has always struck me as the best place to head for food if the pubs in the Purbecks are too busy during tourist season.
Set in a fine thatched building, with a lovely interior suited to this type of country pub, the main attraction is the food. I enjoyed a good, if unimaginitive, steak and Tanglefoot ale pie and the prices were reasonable given the location.
Beer-wise, there were a number of Badger Beers on offer and I tried the seasonal beer called 'Lemoney Cricket, which, as the name implies, had a clear but not overpowering aftertaste of lemon - fine for a summer's day in the large beer garden.
