A Georgian high street pub in a terrace, opening straight onto the busy footpath. While the outside of the building is well-kept and in keeping with the town’s historic charm, the interior is scruffy and has a cheap 1960s feel about it. There is a jug and bottle-type servery as you enter, a saloon bar to the left and a smaller public bar to the right, all open plan now. The staff were tolerant, the locals less welcoming. No real ale, despite there being a solitary handpump on the bar. Opening times can be unpredictable. There are better pubs close by.
