Set in an old building the single roomed interior seems devoid of any notable character having been victim to previous stripping of any internal features it may once have had, there was though some good banter going on between the two barmen (bikers ) and punters.Beers noted were Tanglefoot, Fursty Ferret and Old Harrys Pale Ale.I'll not be rushing back.

One of Poole's oldest pubs, The King's Head dates from around 1678 and is currently owned by Hall and Woodhouse. It is a small, scruffy backstreet pub, a single bar containing a pool table and sparsely furnished. There is a strange echo about the place which makes quiet conversation awkward and means there is no pleasant atmosphere. The welcome is genuine, though, and the landlady is happy to make a coffee for you if you ask. There is a large pub dog, a loud, white German shepherd, who insists on guarding the bar from undesirables but is quite friendly to most humans. Two ales on, both H&W and both in fair condition. It's a good local but not somewhere that really feels cosy or convivial.

This is a large U-shaped single room with a grassy walled garden to the rear. The main area is carpeted and has mostly regular seating, there are two pool tables and two dartboards, a bit of seafaring paraphernalia, a set of buffalo horns and strangely I thought, framed photos of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and The Statue of Liberty. The other pictures of sailing ships were a better and more relevant choice I think.
I visited on the Saturday afternoon, my last day in Poole, I had however kept tabs on the place in earlier days peering in as I passed by to see only Tanglefoot on the pumps. Finally they also had Badger First Call and Badger, nothing from Ringwood, just H&W ales. Seeing the improved number of ales I decided to give the place a try, There was a festival on around the quay and everywhere was very busy, except here. It soon appeared why, service was indifferent, strange even, I ordered a pint and was offered a bottled beer for some reason, the beer turned out to be passable from the pump. More so they had no food, on a Saturday, people were walking out. It all smacks of lackadaisical management and organisation, this together with a general unkempt feel made this probably one of the worst places I visited on my trip. I could have been unlucky but on a well publicised busy day I suspect not.

A very pleasant little pub just tucked away behind the quay. on my first visit, everyone seemed to know each other, which was a little daunting at first, however within minutes I was accepted into the group as if they had known me for years. To the most important part - the beer! There was only a small choice of ringwood beers available, however these were well kept and very good quality. A pub well worth a visit if you are in the area.
