Music bar with front room split into areas and darker back room. Upturned boat above the bar, quirky but nice

Funny little place that can be hard to describe…! Very dim with sodium-style lighting on my evening visit alongside a bizarre large inlit green triangle in the left hand room. The rear room is wood-clad and both seemed to have cabin-style add-ons which are timber-clad. Various bits of Bermuda triangle ephemera, especially around the bar area and ceiling (but no Barry Manilow single?). Four ales on; a Sharps beer (didn’t note name but not Doom Bar!), Great Heck Voodoo Mild, Exeter Lighterman and (yawn) Cottage. Both the Exeter and Great Heck drank well. “Too trendy for its own good?” it says in my (beer-addled) notes. Memorable though and I’d happily give it another go. Somewhere between a 7 and an 8. I’ll be generous.

Well described below, this iconic pub is a GBG regular and rightly so. It's a proper ale house in a large Victorian property on a busy junction so is appealing to the eye as well as the palate. The bar and its annexes are atmospheric, though the Triangle Room is a bit 1960s touristy; maybe that's part of the charm. But the pub isn't a turkey so doesn't need the trimmings - it stands on its ale quality. Today there were four ales on draft, and the Hophead American Pale Ale was in perfect condition, well enjoyed despite the boorish behaviour of some lager louts who appear to have come into the wrong pub. I would be happy to lose myself here anytime.

This is a cracking little pub situated down a side turning off the main road in the Parkstone area of town. You enter to an L-shaped room with the bar straight ahead. The unusual name becomes a bit of a theme inside with all manner of plane and ship related artefacts on the walls and suspended from the ceilings. The bar canopy is angled and contains a ship's wheel, models of turtles, ship's gauges and flags of various nations, there are shelves of nautical figures, muskets, ship's lanterns, a mock up treasure chest, a wing of a US Airforce plane, a surfboard and part of a ship's prow hang from the ceiling. To the side of the bar is a montage of US state car licence plates. A bit of mast forms the centre of a barrel table, on the walls are framed newspaper articles concerning disappearances within the Triangle.
To the side and rear are two seemingly add-ons in the form of timber boarded cabins. The side one is carpeted and has a lit porthole type window featuring a diver and a lobster, suggesting it represents a sunken ship. The rear area has American metal advertisements for cars and motorbikes and another news article concerning the sinking of the Titanic.
I like pubs like this with all kinds of unusual material to find and look at, there always seems to be something you have not noticed before. When they also combine this style with a great range of beer too, I am pretty much in pub heaven. They had Sunny Republic Hop Dog, Sharp's Special, Plain Ales Innocence and Flack Manor Double Drop. Nothing boring or mainstream about that list. I saw no signs or indications that food is served, being in around the early part of lunchtime I doubt that it is.
This is a lovely spot with great beer, loads to catch one's interest and is seriously recommended. It is a fair hike from the centre of Poole but there are transport connections, I jumped the train for one stop, it was about £2.60 or so return.

Classic back street boozer, just a short walk from Parkstone train station. The pub has an L-shaped interior with what appears to be a small extension to the rear and is themed around the pub's name with one seating area shaped like a boat, whilst a plane's wing hangs from the ceiling. There are also some nice glass panes around the door which have small aeroplane insets similar to the pub's sign. All manner of oddities can be spotted during a stroll round the room including a surfboard, flippers, a collection of US number plates and a fishing net suspended above the bar counter, filled with shells and various rubber fish.
There are also a great number of CAMRA certificates on the walls, testifying to the pub's excellent commitment to good beer. Four hand pulls were dispensing White Horse Volund's Hammer, Dark Star APA, Salopian Holly Bush and Titanic Deck the Halls, whilst there were a couple of German lagers on tap. I tried all of the ales on offer and found them in top condition, especially the Salopian which merited a couple of extra pints. The place was very busy on Boxing Day, in stark contrast to a number of other local pubs we passed on our way there. Loud music was being played from an i-pod behind the bar, although it didn't hinder conversation too much. The staff were very efficient and handled the crowds well at what is a very short bar counter.
I really like this pub and always welcome the chance to pay a visit. I think the reviewer below is right in saying this is the best pub in the area - I can't think of many other pubs in the Poole/Bournemouth conurbation that I would rather spend my time in. Very much a 'must-do' pub for anyone heading to Poole.

The best pub in the area with 4 constantly rotating pumps all changing within 1 or 2 days In addition there is Bitburger and Warsteiner larger on draft.
