E TA left this review about The Red Lion

Still a Badger pub, but very much run down since the previous reviews. It’s tatty around the edges, there is a pile of detritus outside the front door and the pub is far from welcoming. It still has the gaming machines and TV screens but there was no sign of a bar billiards table. The background music was pleasant, the courtyard garden was full of smokers and the general air was hostile towards strangers. Junk food is now served at lunchtimes. Happy hour is on Fridays, but the only ale on was Badger Best Bitter which was in below-average condition. I wouldn’t bother in future.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion

Sturdy old Hall & Woodhouse inn, originally comprising at least three rooms but now partly opened out into a 'L'-shaped layout. Traditional decor, not overcrowded with furniture. Quiet when I visited, with almost inaudible background music and silent sports TV. Spotted what looked like a covered bar billiards table in one corner. Two of three handpumps, offering Badger Tanglefoot and First Call (£3.20). Worth a stop if in the area.

Old Blue left this review about The Red Lion

This seems to be very much the local drinkers' pub, aided by its decision not to serve food at all whilst others locally have gone extremely foodie. And it seems to have worked. Badger and Firkin Fox on when I visited, a wider range on hand pump would be better but my Fox was excellent. An interesting town pub with traditional low-beamed interior, ornamental knick-knacks around the place, and pretty decent garden. They also have a sports bar area, and live bands and karaoke nights at weekends. I'm not a karaoke sort of person, but this evidently well-run friendly boozer struck me as having achieved a good balance and to be a very good place for some drinks over a match, some drinks over some music, or just some drinks. I'll definitely go here again if in the area.
