A gastro-pub on the edge of a working village, just of the main tourist route through Dorset. There is a large carpark and a pleasant, tidy garden. Inside, the bars have been conjoined, the previous layout visible by the different flooring - tiles and floorboards. There is WiFi, but there are no other electronic distractions as this pub concentrates on food and drink. It is named after the local cheese, which features in some of the dishes on the menu. Staff were quite amateurish, while the locals seemed to be mainly County set. There were three ales on draft - Doombar, Landlord and Young's Bitter, plus Crop Circle Gluten Free Bitter and a boxed cider on the bar. It wasn't cheap, and I got the feeling this would be overrun with tourists during the Summer. Decent enough, worth a try, but I didn't really warm to it.

A large imposing pub standing on a corner in nearly open countryside

Large car parks, front and rear. Large pleasant garden with seating.

Spit into two bars, with open doorway between them. The smaller bar is more "public, where one could expect to meet a horny handed son of the soil, or the darts team, The other bar is much larger, subdivided with restaurant and drinking area, mostly eating though. No horny handed folk in here, more likely their bosses, or bankers, suits, Colonel Tufton - Bufton and the like

The dining bar is finished in modern large furniture style, sort of Ikeaish I suppose. The smaller locals bar is more traditional pub style

Very low volume musak

Spotless toilet

Now to beer, 3 hand pulls, Courage Best, Theakston's Mild & Dissy Blonde served from large open bar, also has wine of course

Serves food, at lunchtime has choice of filled baguettes

I had Dissy Blonde and a sausage & onion baguette, both were excellent, I went on my a happy man.

If sort of going by on A35 near Dortchester it is worth a very slight detour.
