A recent opening in a prime spot right on the beach, this was an aquarium in a former life but has recently been transformed in to an all-day café/bar type establishment and the food offering is very much still at the fore here, with a large glass display cabinet groaning under the weight of cupcakes and sponges being one of the first things that you see as you enter. You are nonetheless quite welcome to just pop in for a pint, and that is what we did.

It's all one large, open plan room internally, with large floor to ceiling windows on two sides making the most of the outlook all along the beach. There is also a wraparound balcony on two sides with glass panelling which was a pleasant spot on a recent warm evening. Décor wise it’s fairly contemporary I suppose, with some sort of wood strip on the floors, canary yellow paint on the walls, a bar counter clad with duck egg blue wood panelling and white steel girders in the open roof space. A grand piano was situated in the middle of the room, and multiple low hanging globe lights supplemented the light pouring in through the windows. Various pictures were dotted around the walls including several black and white photos of the locale and there was an old dresser and bookcase off to one side. Most of the seating was regular tables and chairs which no doubt suits the dining customers, but there were also a few Chesterfield sofa’s around. An unusual feature was some sort of crazy golf game in a separate room near the entrance, which looked to be in near darkness with neon strip lighting outlining the edges of the fairways.

Unfortunately, there were no real ales on tap, just Sharp’s Atlantic on keg. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Gold and Sharp’s Cold River. This is certainly a great spot, staff were friendly, if a little slow, and the menu looked tempting, but in many ways it’s aimed more at the diner than the drinker and with the lack of much in the way of a ale selection it’s not somewhere I’d recommend as part of a crawl.
