This is a very smart micropub located on the main street through the centre of Welling, and the sister pub to the venue of the same name in nearby Blackfen. It's a slightly more upmarket version of your typical micropub, with tidy floorboards throughout the shop converted room, large windows to the front, and brick walls painted in a dark shade of purple with a matching ceiling. High bench seating runs down both sides of the room with bar stools in support. The walls are decorated with corporate photos for this small chain, and some large boards listing gin and cocktail options. The servery appears midway down the right-hand side and has a square counter with fairy lights beneath the counter top and a plain shelf bar back, topped with a TV screen detailing the full beer range. The room narrows past the end of the bar, with just a few seats down the left-hand side in this part, with the toilets further to the rear. There's another beer screen back here plus a large pub logo on the back wall. A few tables have been chucked out on the pavement outside, behind a fake hedgerow.
Two handpulls offered a choice between Marble Manchester Bitter and Oakham Citra, both served from a taproom out the back, with the latter turning out to be in great condition. Seven craft keg options plus a decent cider and perry range rounded things out nicely. The barmaid seemed very friendly and there was a nice mix of customers on my Saturday, early evening visit, with more women than men, despite the fact that a match had just finished at nearby Welling United.
I thought this was a very nicely presented micropub with smart decor, comfy seating and well-kept ale, which clearly has a wide appeal and was doing a good trade as a result. I really loved their sister pub and enjoyed my time here too - for me, it's a must-do when drinking in Welling.
