Modern unit, larger inside than it looks. nice enough inside with bottle shop at end. Specialist tap house highlighting the craft ales.

The Broken Seal Tap Room is the brewery tap for the Six Hills Brewery. It is located in a building just off the High Street of the Old Town, within easy reach of other Old Town pubs. However, it is currently the only entry for Stevenage in the Good Beer Guide.

There is a single rectangular room, with the bar to the left as you enter. A blackboard behind the bar lists the beer (and cider) range. The list comprises mainly craft beers on keg, along with some KeyKeg. But there were a couple of guest cask ales, which were Abbeydale Hopback Enigma & Burning Sky Porter. The real cider was Dorset Nectar Dabinett Organic, whilst the craft beer list was Brew By Numbers 08 Chocolate & Orange Stout & 85 Triple IPA - Chinook & Centennial, Six Hills Hanging Around, Moving The Goalposts & Slingshot To Mars, Six Hills & Charles Faram House Pils, Brew York Calmer Chameleon & Juice Campbell vs The Army of Darkness, Abbeydale Aussie IPA & Lindeman's Kriek.

Beers are also listed on an Untappd screen and there are multiple fridges containing bottles and cans to the right-hand side. These can be drunk in or taken away.

This is certainly a decent addition to the Stevenage bar and pub scene.

Easy to miss as it's actually down Basil Road, despite the High Street postal address. It's a modern ground floor shop conversion and is also home to the Six Hills Brewery, out the back and past the courtyard. The interior has a series of high furniture in steel frames and glass tables while there are drinking shelves to either side.At one end the bar,at the opposite end racks of bottles and cans for sale. One side wall has a display of Belgian metal beer adverts.A flatscreen was off, while the soundtrack was excellent and at a sensible volume.
There is an outstanding range of beer styles and strengths (some really pokey) from the 14 wall mounted taps.Four are dedicated to cask, although there was only Brass Castle Bad Kitty on my visit (NBSS 4.5) from what will be a constantly rotating range .Four taps were key keg and hit the CAMRA real ale definition and on my trip that mean a Six Hills Moving the Goal Posts (NBSS 4) among others. The remaining 6 keg only taps were dispensing beer from Cloudwater,Deya,Polly's Brew and several from Six Hills. A tap takeover from ORA Brewing was coming up soon.
The barman was full of excellent beer knowledge and is part of the ownership team.Friendly and chatty ,I got the impression that only really strong brewers will be allowed to showcase here.None of your usual beer crap
This place is a revelation for Stevenage Old Town where there are a lot of Pubco.owned joints, this is therefore a must visit when in Town.
