Blackthorn _ left this review about Double Barrel Bar

A new opening on the site of the former Chomp restaurant, this is owned by the guys behind the Bristol Distilling Company. It was surprisingly quiet on our recent Thursday evening visit, completely deserted in fact despite several other nearby bars seeming to be fairly busy, which inevitably meant there wasn’t really much in the way of any atmosphere.

Internally it’s fairly basic in appearance, with dark wood strip on the floor, a mixture of cream and burnt orange paintwork on the walls and some fairly basic square tables. One high table was using industrial metal tubing for support and this had high metal stools around it to sit on. Elsewhere seating was a mixture of a wooden bench fixed to the wall, regular chairs and beer barrels with a plywood top attached. A few pictures dotted around brightened it up slightly I suppose, but there was little else of any note.

There was no real ale available unfortunately, with just Wiper & True’s Kaleidoscope available on keg. The solitary cider was Thatcher’s Gold. Apparently American Bourbon is something of a speciality though, so if that’s your thing you may well be more appreciative of the selection. Barman seemed a little too friendly I thought, to the extent that he was hanging around asking us questions rather than just leaving us alone to chat. Overall, there was nothing really wrong with it, but it’s not anywhere I’ll be rushing back to.
