Award winning conversion of station buildings into an 'ale and gin' bar, consisting of two adjoining rooms plus tables along the platform. All very tasteful and seems to attract artyfarty types but does have some interesting beers, on this occasion Gorilla Vanilla Gorilla, Madape Twist in my Lemon Man, Thornbridge Brother Rabbit and Windle, plus craft keg. Very handy if your train running late.

A station pub in a nicely repurposed and award-winning building, but it doesn't really work for me. Partly this is because of its location: a small town with plenty of pubs including one right next to the station; partly (for me, at least) it's that my only previous experience of Gorilla beers was at their brewery tap in Mexborough, where I wasn't impressed, and there were three of them on here - the alternative being from Thornbridge; and then because of the location of the pub it's pretty quiet, with nothing in the way of pub atmosphere. It's obviously unfair to compare this one with the Sheffield Tap, but the Harrogate Tap is a very nice railway station pub and this one comes nowhere near it. Perhaps these thoughts came to me when I looked around after taking my beer to a table and saw that the beers listed on a blackboard beside the bar did not come close to matching what was actually available. There's a lot to like about this little pub, like the swallows painted on the ceiling, and some top quality furniture, but this sort of sloppiness gets my goat. To be fair, the Gorilla Silverback Blonde was a pretty good beer, but (here we go, there has to be a but) I don't like pump clips with jokes, and this one with a gorilla in a blonde wig made me hesitate before ordering, and it's still bugging me as I write this review.

Located in a part of the historic listed railway station, in fact it’s the York bound platform 2, run by Gorilla Brewing of Mexborough. Quite a narrow area with two rooms, the counter, built of sleepers with an actual rail as the foot rail, is in the larger left hand room. Seating at high tables mainly but with a leather armchair and a low table, the right hand is more cosy. There is also an outside seating area cordoned off from the platform, some trains sit in the station for a while so those might not be the best seats in the house. Six pulls with a mix of their own Gorilla beers plus someThornbridge which seems regular and a Roosters on this occasion, six craft kegs, four keg Martini cocktails (!) and the usual range of spirits. A little railway porn as decoration, no table candles but more interesting Edison lamps in cages so they don’t escape. Really nicely finished, it took 16 months to renovate and has worked out very well, an excellent addition to the Knaresborough drinking scene and a stop on the small but interesting York- Leeds rail-ale trail.
