Will Larter left this review about The Crook Inn

The pub closed in 2006 with the owner saying he could not make any money and wanted to copnvert it to flats, to which objectors responded that he was not open at busy times. (Tweedsmuir is an extended but scattered village, with a village hall and kirk seemingly the only communal buildings. There is no other pub for many miles around.)

A community action group was formed which raised money, including lottery funding, to buy and renovate the pub. A Peeblesshire News report in 2018 stated that funds had dried up and the community company was seeking renewed planning permission to allow a phased development plan. A spokesman said: "Whilst fundraising is ongoing for the Crook Inn redevelopment, the community has secured additional land and buildings surrounding the Crook Inn and is working hard to secure funding from smaller grants to put in place a series of catalyst projects to re-activate the site as a community hub and generate revenue to support the main building redevelopment.

"This application is for the renewal of the Crook Inn consent, the conversion of the existing masonry L-shaped outbuilding into a community cafe and the demolition of the two-storey staff accommodation block and the building of a new bunkhouse.

"The supporting buildings would form the initial phases of development and help to ignite the process of revitalisation within the Crook Inn site."

A report on the 28dayslater website shows what poor condition the building is now in.
