Blackthorn _ left this review about Vintage & Vine

A relatively recent opening at the top of the popular Hill Road, this occupies a prominent corner plot with large round curved windows around much of the exterior. It functions as both an off licence and a bar, and whilst some establishments of this nature make you feel as though you’re just sat in a shop, here the ambience was much more pleasant and it did seem much more like a bar that happened to have shelves of wine around.

Décor wise it’s a bit of a mix of contemporary and traditional with wood strip on much of the floor, black ceiling tiles, aqua coloured banquette seating following around the curved windows and a couple of high chairs in other windows. There was a small section of exposed brick walling whilst the lighting was provided by the de rigour exposed filament bulbs in glass globes around the perimeter, and recessed downlighters in the ceiling. Tables were of a chunky wood design, and there were a couple of very large pot plants dotted around. The bar counter was off to the left, whilst the shelving for wine (as well as some spirits, beer and cider) formed a U shape at the back of the pub and was actually an attractive feature rather than obviously being part of the shop side of things.

Unfortunately, there were no real ales on tap, just Beavertown Neck Oil on keg. The solitary cider meanwhile was Orchard Thieves. Overall, I quite liked this, with it’s relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and an excellent selection of local drinks from small artisan producers to take away. However, if you’re after something a bit more “pubby” with a better range of beers on tap, this may not be for you.
