Will Larter left this review about The Churchill Tree

Two bits of information from the WhatPub entry for this fairly new gastropub: "The pub, a sensitive conversion of the grade II listed Tenant's Hall, a former meeting hall built in 1904, is named after the sweet chestnut tree planted by a young Winston Churchill at Alderley Park in the early 20th century." In 1904 Churchill was 30 years old; when I was 35 I planted a sweet chestnut tree in the small back garden of my house in Leeds. A few years after I had moved out I noticed from street view that it had been cut down. I think what I'm trying to say is, this is how the other half live.

That said, this is a magnificent building, its brick walls supported by buttresses, its windows with stone mullions and an overall feel of a medieval dining hall or a Methodist chapel. I took my coffee to an appropriate seat where I could look around at all the features. I can heartily recommend a visit.

Beer? Yes, there was beer but it was before midday and I was driving, so I had a coffee. There are three hand pumps on the bar and the beers were Timothy Taylor Boltmaker and two house beers from local Weetwood brewery, a blonde and a best bitter.
