Ian Mapp left this review about The Fox Tap

Newest GBG Tick in the 2024 edition.

Check the hours carefully - all usual sources of infor - whatpub, google maps and their own website (which I should have trusted first) have different hrs. I didnt think it opened till 2pm on a Saturday but it is a midday opener.

Smart brewery tap, with long tables and excellent beer from Keswick brewery.

Easier to get a seat than at the others in town.

The successful and expanding Keswick Brewery has now extended the brewery tap from what was really not much more than a spare corner of the brewery to a smart new extension. There's lots of windows, blonde wood, bare brick, and a slate floor. The bar is big and handsome, with six hand pumps and four keg taps. Bottles and cans are available to take out. (Opening times vary with the season and time of week.) In conversation we found out that the present site of Keswick Brewery is the only building still standing on Brewery Lane (everything else having been deemed of less use than a car park), which was named after the original Keswick Brewery. That brewery was extant approximately 1855 to 1897, and the present brewery owners only found out after moving in that their new home was in fact the original brewery building itself.

OK, after all that excitement you'll be expecting the beer to be a let down, but in fact Keswick beers are pretty good. Nothing earth-shattering, but their Special Bitter 4.6% and the even stronger Dark Horse 6% (which is sold as Thirst Noel in winter months) are both easy to drink. Too easy in the case of the latter.
