My last visit to Ashington was to a place called Bubbles Wine Bar that is not listed on here. My impressions of Ashington on that trip weren't brilliant and the town was every bit as grim as I remembered. Station Road appears to be the main thoroughfare in the town and it is lined with a large number of take-away outlets.

However, in the middle of all of this is a fantastic micropub serving an excellent range of real ales, real ciders and craft beers. The guy behind the bar seemed to be really knowledgeable about beers and his customers were too.

Ales on were Anarchy Flat Out & Durham Oreo Speedwagon & Meraki. Ciders were Snail's Bank Tumbledown Medium Dry & Talking Horse Raspberry Kick. Craft beers were Twice Brewed Galba & Neptune & First & Last Spruce Saison.

It's a fairly large, but simple space where dogs are made welcome. Ashington may not be the most inspiring town to visit, but Hop 77 certainly makes a trip here worthwhile.
