In the same ownership as a couple of other nearby pubs (the Glass Spider being one), it is perhaps surprising that this one has such an unfinished look about it, with a few electrical cables hanging from the ceiling and what appears to be an inn sign depicting a half-crazed man with a couple of marionettes leaning against a half-painted wall, but perhaps this is a form of distressed chic. The bar is towards the rear and would be quite difficult to access if a crowd were to materialise. As many as 10 beers were listed on a blackboard, with one or two crossed through, and the keg taps were located on the back wall, which I think is a less than perfect arrangement as it means the server has their back turned to the customers while pouring the drinks. I noticed a couple of beers from Deya, but it being October I was pleased to see a couple of Oktoberfest beers, and went for the Spaten which was very good, though a little colder than I would normally like. There's a steep staircase to access the upper floors, where there is more seating and also a toilet. The background music was an interesting selection, with a late-70s Kinks number followed appropriately by the Jam's Liza Radley. If I lived locally I might well call in once or twice a month, for its different beers and its quirkiness.

This is a Victorian themed blues bar located on Little Underbank in a former general store and hat shop. The owner Joseph Patten an actor has restored the former shop back to it's original glory and installed a new period effect staircase, coving ,floors and chandeliers. There are also Singer sewing machine tables and a bar designed to look like a Victorian pharmacy counter
