This is a small, micropub-style bar which acts as a taproom of sorts for the eponymous Fell Brewery. It's a fairly simple, shop converted, single room set-up, with nice modern floorboards and walls painted in a neutral colour scheme. Seating is limited to a few basic tables and chairs to the front and rear of the room, with standing room in between and a lone high table with stools to the left. The bar is along the right-hand wall and has a lumpy wooden counter and simple bar back with keg taps running in a line beneath some large blackboards which detail the gin and wine options. A disused fireplace to one side of the bar has been filled with a large pub logo sign, whilst the window to the rear has lots of board and card games on its sill, as well as some potted plants. The walls have been sparingly decorated with art prints and more blackboards, but decor on the whole is a bit minimalist, so its not the most captivating space to spend your time in. A nice, funky soundtrack was playing quietly in the background and there was a load of brewery merchandise on display at the rear of the room.
There were three Fell brews on the handpulls - Ghyll, Crisis and a so-so Foss at £4.00 for a pint. Eight craft keg options fleshed out the range somewhat, with all beers helpfully listed on a board to the left of the entrance. The barman was friendly enough and a pretty quirky chap to boot - his opening line to me was "How can I refresh you?", which I think is a first! It was very quiet on a Sunday afternoon, with one couple, a lone old boy and the barman's mate the only other people during my entire stay.
I thought this was a pretty average craft beer bar that didn't really showcase Fell beers at their best and lacked a bit of atmosphere and charm to make it feel essential. I appreciated the friendly service and thought the place had a but of potential, but overall it was pretty average and wouldn't be high on my list for a revisit.

Good Beer Guide 2024 - Tap room for the Fell Brewery.

High-ish rating as their Tinderbox IPA is fast becoming one of my favourite beers.

A shop conversion over at least three floors - although the top one was in darkness.

Just the right level of busy-ness for a Saturday night.
