Will Larter left this review about Brass Monkey

This one is closely related to the Northern Monkey just down the road at Hillsborough Corner. One of the owners of this is also involved in the other (or the other way around) and the same artist has worked on the illustrations of simians which adorn the walls of both pubs. This one is much smaller and rather darker, having less natural light coming through its windows. The bar counter is smaller too, with just three hand pumps and a few keg offerings, plus gin. Of course there has to be gin. Only two of the hand pumps had pump clips on, though on enquiry it appears that the other one had beer available but nothing to say what it was. As I pointed out, they'll not sell much of that one then. Faced with a choice of Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Loxley Brewery's Wisewood One Blond I went for the latter. My taste of the un-labled beer (which was called Wilderness, according to the lass behind the bar, though whether this was Wilderness from Allendale Brewery or a beer from Wilderness Brewery in Newtown, Powys, I couldn't ascertain) led me to the conclusion that it didn't matter too much which beer I asked for, it was always going to be blonde and bland.

(One of the toilets had a "wheelchair accessible" symbol on the door, but any wheelchair users should make a point of bringing a strong friend with them to get them over the pub's quite high front door step.)
