Ten handpumps, so enough to make any CAMRA zealot and their ilk cream themselves especially when it serves Draught Bass, the other beers were from small breweries, the kegs are from generally craft or pseudo-craft breweries. Wines and spirits too, so is it a kosher micro? Whatever there’s no surprise it’s in the GBG. Beer quality is very good in spite of the pump count. A small corner micro but with seating upstairs as well as downstairs a few tables with stools and a sprinkling of taller chairs at shelves, there’s a pew in one corner. Odd decor which is largely animal based obviously including foxes, plus a selection of CAMRA awards, cut down keg lamp shades, a bus destination blind, footy scarves and “witty” signs. Toilets and the extra seating upstairs, there’s also a rear garden and there’s no standing at the bar. Slightly cliquey vibe.

This micro was a former corner house, when the owner and his wife spotted the property whilst having a meal in the restaurant opposite. It's a real hit with the locals and beer tourists like ourselves calling in. We called on a Thursday afternoon and the owner apologised for only having 9 handpumps in use, instead of the usual 10. Bass is their permanent cask ale, along with various guests from dark to light.
The line up on our visit was Durham Dark Angel Stout, Black Edge Dark Mild, Theakston Best Bitter, Black Edge Pike Pale Ale, Durham Hooked On A Feeling IPA, Jarl Citra Blonde, Pictish Pacific Jade, Bank Top Flat Cap and Bass. If space is limited there is further seating upstairs.

Small place (a micro? maybe) with a wooded floor and an intriguing fox, owl and dog décor – I presume this is a nod to the football clubs supported by the owners. Snooker on the telly, it’s still a thing up this way. Doing a roaring trade Friday evening and was rammed, with a cracking atmosphere; I had to beg to share a table such was the level of custom. 10 pumps, all operating; I went straight for the Bass which was in good shape (NBSS 3.5). Hard to get a good look at the other options but I think I saw some cider and a couple of unusual German kegs from ABK. Despite the squeeze I liked this one and would pop in again. GBG’23 listed, of course.

The Fox and Pine has a bar counter to the left through the entrance and there is seating along the front windows and around to the left rear. I counted nine hand pumps on the bar, all in operation and none were mainstream to my knowledge. I went for a pint of Mosaic which kicked off a conversation about beer at the bar, and why not? There was some low background music playing and the television was quite rightly off. I didn’t venture upstairs. It wasn’t busy, but there was still a good atmosphere meaning that I’d happily make a return trip here.

A newish micropub in Oldham town centre, run by Chris, who managed the Regal Moon Wetherspoons in Rochdale for several years. His wife Michelle, also with a long history of pub management, runs the nearby Cob & Coal micropub and also helps out here as well. Downstairs is about the same size as many micros, but there's an upstairs area as well with 10 - 12 tables. Downstairs was busy and buzzy on Friday whilst upstairs was quite peaceful, something for everyone.

Ten handpumps on the bar and up to 8 real ciders available. For the lager drinkers they serve the unusual ABK beers from Bavaria. I had 3 pints here and all were in good nick. I was soon chatting to some of the other punters as well. An enjoyable visit and somewhere I'll be visiting regularly in future.

The name is derived from Leicester City (Foxes) and Oldham Athletic (originally called Pine Villas).
