Blackthorn _ left this review about May Green

Located on a barge moored up on the canal immediately adjacent to Paddington station, having wandered past previously but not had time to stop, this struck me as quite a pleasant spot and so I took the opportunity to visit when I was next in the area.

It’s quite long and narrow as might be expected with the bar counter taking up much of the available floor space, leaving little more than a walkway alongside with two-seater tables along the edge. It opened out a little at the end on to an outside, but covered, section of the boat. This had a fractionally larger table, but most of the seating was high stools with nowhere to rest your pint. Décor wise it has pale wood strip on the floor, a wood panelled bar counter and white wooden cladding on the ceiling, but little of any note. It was unfortunate that the windows were set quite high, meaning that by the time you had sat down, you could not actually see out. Overall, there just didn’t seem much atmosphere and it didn’t have the character that I had been expecting.

There were no real ales on tap unfortunately, and it appeared that a number of the keg options were off. I opted for the cider, which was a new one on me and so I was keen to try it. But this too was off. The barmaid seemed distinctly non-plussed when I enquired why. She also insisted on table service, so I was fully expecting a service charge to be added on, which I'd then have to contest. Fortunately this was not the case, although considering my pint of IPA cost £6.70 anyway, you could well argue that a service charge as well mght be a step too far. Quite disappointing overall, and not somewhere I’d be likely to bother with again.

One of two matching barges permanently moored on the towpath and designed by Sir Perter Blake. The other barge is a restaurant, while May Green is a mixed use bar with 9 craft keg taps.Extremely hip and trendy at a great location opposite a tube exit and by a lot of boating action.
