Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Pelican

Formerly Beatnikz Republic NQ, the Pelican is now the Squawk Brewery tap, with an unchanged reversed L-shaped layout but some decorative changes. As you enter, you immediately see a row of 14 craft keg taps on the bar-back, with a large but curiously illegible display board above (which, on closer inspection, listed seven of their own beers, six from Neighbourhood and and one from Carnival). Also has three handpumps at one end of the counter and four more on the window side, offering their Oriolus (£3.90), Dawn Chorus from Neighbourhood and an Ascension cider.

Predictable trendy Manc venue, an inverse and thin L shaped interior with some multi-coloured back-lit plastic wall on the left and orange banquette seating on the right, an unusual nod to comfort. There's more backlit plastic - multi-coloured this time! - behind the bar. Otherwise it was dark, dingy and noisy so I wasn’t ever going to stay long despite a decent ale selection. My Madagascan Porter by Black Iris Brewery was a tasty little beer if a tad over-vented (NBSS 3) and served-up by a friendly barmaid. The local CAMRAs like it and it’s GBG’23 listed.

Beatnikz Central is a long thin L-shaped bar with a serving counter on the rear wall that supports 14 keg and three cask ale products. The décor is destressed and the high bench like tables give the feel of a beer festival. There was some background music playing during my recent midweek evening visit. This place is good for beer fans, but not so much for pub fans, like myself.

After a number of high percentage beers and cider during our afternoon in Manchester, I'm not sure we did this bar justice. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed my visit here.

The bar is at the far end as you enter, with seating on the way to the bar and also off to the left. I recall the bar being quite colourful, with a couple of cask ales served from handpulls on the right-hand side of the bar. I certainly had the one (RedWillow Breakfast Stout), but I don't recall the other one. It was most likely one of the Beatnikz Republic beers I have listed below.

Other beers on were Beatnikz Republic Prague Away, Boardwalk, Beach Bum, Miami Amor, Surf Etiquette, Off the Road & Rum Barrel Aged Blacklight Breakfast Stout, Squawk/Crisp Plumage, The Kernel Centennial, Buxton King Slayer, Burning Sky Saison Ete, Cigar City Cubano Espresso, Elusive Ravenswood & Alesmith/Modern Times Celestial Draw Speedway Stout.

Another busy place on the edge of the Northern Quarter, but I felt far more at home in this one and a repeat visit surely can't be too long away.

Visited on Saturday evening. No bookings, just walk-ups. Plenty of seating to go at with a choice of low tables or high - the rickety benches are no longer present so perhaps they were temporary. A paper menu is brought to your table and then the staff come back and take your order. I went for the Tropic Fiesta on cask followed by the Cabin Escape on keg - both of which were good. Staff were on the ball and plenty of beers to choose from.

Having left the old school interior of the Hare and Hounds, we come to our next Good Beer Guide 2021 tick and it couldn't be more different. That's the beauty of ticking the guide.

Shares a doorway with the Idel Hands Cafe (considerably busier at midday) so make sure you head right and not left on entrance. Unless you are hungry.

This had the feel of a light industrial units canteen - hard metal chairs, with long bench seating running along the side. High ceiling but harsh lighting, with the obligatory exposed metal work in the roof.

Beer wise, there was a menu with cask (Jaipur) and Keg (a couple of rarely spotted Kernel beers). I completely missed that this is a tap room for Beatnikz own wares. Not even sure I noticed it on the menu.

It was OK but there is so much choice in the area.

This place is up a few steps and to the right of a cafe. A longish, thinish place with the bar along the rear wall. 14 taps for crafty nonsense and 4 handpulls for real ale. Beatnitz beers obviously to the fore. Not a bad place and probably worth a visit.

A long L shaped room that had plenty of seating, consisting of orange coloured contoured banquette seating along the window side and high bench seating along the opposite wall. The bar area at the far end had a multi coloured Perspex wall, displaying 14 keg choices and three cask beers on the right hand side of the bar. We went for the Australian Gold Coast IPA, which was superb.

This is the replacement Beatnikz brewery tap for the one that used to be on Red Bank within the brewery. It's roughly L shaped with not much in the way of decoration apart from a couple of posters. High tables to the left as you enter and bright orange seating to the right. The keg beers are listed at the rear of the bar on some windows. Only 2 cask ales available on my visit Beatnikz Stout and Pomona Island Mosaic. The Mosaic was in very good nick. Very quiet on my Friday afternoon visit. It's very basic. but maybe it'll work.

Visited on Saturday evening. It is still a bit rough around the edges having only opened the weekend before. Nothing major but one wall remains unpainted for example. Behind the bar on the right hand wall were four hand pulls for cask ales, one of these was off and only one of the others was offering a Beatnikz beer which was a bitter (Leather Soul) and the other two by Burning Sky. Despite a couple of tasters none of these really tickled our taste buds so I went for one of the stouts on keg and my drinking accomplice had an IPA. There are 14 keg taps on the back wall.

Seating is of the long bench type often found in brewery tap rooms, and I suspect this is where they may have come from, as they used to operate a brew tap at their brewery.

Nice to have been and I daresay I will be back at some point to see how the place develops.
