Bucking Fastard left this review about 1815 The Union Bar

This bar is open to the public and is owned by the same charitable trust as The Cambridge Union, dedicated to the freedom of speech. The Union building is next door. The bar is really just one long room, with a bar at the far end down one side, while seating is mainly chesterfield sofas, although a few more traditional tables and chairs are dotted around the interior.Naturally students will make up a lot of the audience but post grads, parents and older tourists will also pay a visit and the atmosphere on my Thursday evening trip was more laid back than boisterous. It's also open all day, coffees and a wide selection of teas are available besides a good range of spirits and a single handpump offering Oakham Scarlet Macaw.Because it may appear at first like a private club and with it being tucked up an alleyway,I expect it will be less full of tourists than the other pubs closer to The Cam and for that reason I can see it being a useful spot to know if you want a quiet drink.Muzak is jazz orientated with many pictures of jazz muscians on the walls.
