Since handing over to Little Monster, this micropub has become much more keg-friendly. 10 tap friendly in fact, with 3 cask ales also offered up from the cool room, including one from the host brewery, who have now broadened their range.

The room itself is much as before and service at the bar was chatty and friendly, just as I remember from the last visit 4 years back.

This remains the best option in town in my view.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Hornet Alehouse

Of 20 new pubs tried in Sussex over the past few days, the Hornet Alehouse just managed to outshine all of the others. Situated fractionally to the east of Chichester City Centre, this two-floor micropub had a friendly landlady and equally friendly customers.

Downstairs was much more lively on our Sunday evening visit. However, with all tables occupied, we retreated upstairs to a room that initially looked like a child's nursery. Many pumpclips adorn the ceiling, whilst there are quite a few books on display, some available for sale or swap and a selection of board games. The one wall looked like a giant Jenga set, but I didn't try removing any of the blocks.

Back on the ground floor, a blackboard to the right-hand side of the small bar listed 3 real ales, 3 real ciders and 3 craft beers. Ales were 360° Double Act, Plain Ales Independence & Good Chemistry Full Circle. Ciders were Little Earth Project Organic Dry, Sandford Orchards Devon Red & Harry's Mango & Lime Cider, whilst craft beers were 360° Miss The Sun, Brew York Obi Wan Cannoli & Glasshouse Nautica.

The best pub I've found in Chichester so far. My Little Earth Project cider was very enjoyable indeed and was a producer I'd not heard of before.

Micropub with a reasonable sized downstairs room plus more seating upstairs. The pub was offering five Cask beers, four keg and four Ciders, the one cask I had , Thornbridge Hacksaw and two keg Overtone V3 NEIPA and the Runaway/Squark Bourbon Barrel Aged Blackbird Stout were all served in the very best of condition. The place was very busy and had a real good vibe about it. The best place I found In Chichester.

A typical single room micro - half-a-dozen or so 3-4 seater tables and a small shelf downstairs, as well as whatever is "upstairs" - there were a few takers.

The ale, as usual, was served from a cool room behind the bar and, as is often the case, a little lifeless as a result. There's also 4 craft keg (3 from Holler on my visit), amusingly described in the beer menus as "evil keg". Also, a good selection of wines and cans and draft beer to take away.

The room was well sound-proofed from the constant traffic on the road outside, which made for a pleasant and relaxing hour or so. The beer's good and interesting with a good buzz in the room, so it's one to visit in the county town.

Micropub in a converted shop with the usual minimalist feel, peculiar opening hours and enthusiastic staff. Offers 5 or so ales from the barrel, plus 4 boxed ciders and a few craft on keg. Also has an upstairs room but not visited.
