Steve C left this review about Crown & Anchor

The Crown & Anchor is a thin rectangular pub with an L-shaped bar counter on the rear wall that faces tables that run under the front windows and banquettes to the right. The tables all had sauces on the tables and some stairs to the right of the entrance lead up to Baileys, which I imagine is a first floor dining area. This was closed during a recent Monday evening visit, as was the kitchen. I spotted two televisions that were off while some golden oldies played in the background. Standard and premium keg was available and the three hand pumps were drawing Salcombe’s Gold and Lifesaver alongside St Austell’s Tribute. The service was polite, but I found it a bit boring so don’t plan on returning.

Formerly Pilgrims, this lively sea front boozer is housed in a Georgian house which has been substantially refurbished and altered inside. It feels modern and clean, and the atmosphere was lively but pleasant. One ale on, Jail Ale at a reasonable price, and well kept. The clientele was mainly lots of young-ish males in over-tight trousers and designer bumfluff on their faces, but it was convivial and quite enjoyable. Worth a revisit, and I’d include in a crawl.

Clive Thompson left this review about Crown and Anchor

Looks a bit beaten up from the outside. Tribute and a Crown and Anchor Ale on. The latter was particularly poor and it didn't strike me as being a pub that sells a lot of ale. Large screen TV showing a noisy music channel. Empty when I visited Tuesday afternoon. Unlikely to go back with the Dolphin being so close.

Old Blue left this review about Crown and Anchor

After a spell as Pilgrims Cafe Bar this re-opened on Wednesday after an extensive refurb as the Crown & Anchor. It has a modern, clinical feel to it. There are three hand pumps, of which two were populated last night with Tribute which costs £2.90 a pint and Courage Best. I didn't find this pub inspiring compared with others in the area - I do hope it improves with age.
