Tris C left this review about German Gymnasium

A very fine interior indeed, from which Germans happily dangled until their countrymen bombed it during World War I.
But...I only popped in for a coffee which was surprisingly good value and way better than what you'd get from Costbucks. As a place to drink, I'd avoid like the plaque, that's even if I could afford the place.
This venue barely qualifies for inclusion - the Lighterman across the square is positively like the Bree Louise compared to this place.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about German Gymnasium

Upmarket restaurant and bar in a striking building that has been well converted from its previous incarnation in a previously run-down area between St Pancras and Kings Cross stations. The main dining area and a small bar (with a few stools) are located on the ground floor under a towering vaulted ceiling. The main bar and further dining areas are located up on the gallery level. All very smart, but there is also a small outside patio area if the weather is suitable. Four German beers on draught - Pils and Wheat Beer from Rothaus and Oechsener Vier and Black Lager (£6.00). Overall, if you can stand the prices, and you go at a quieter time, this a quite an interesting spot for a drink if waiting for a train.
