Steve C left this review about Black Cat Pub & Grill

The Black Cat is a relatively new addition to St Leonards-on-Sea; I believe the building was previously operated as a private hire venue. Seating lines the narrow frontage that overlooks Grand Parade and the English Channel. Printed A4 sheets in the windows advertise live music at the weekend and the availability of food, burger and chips £6.50. The possibility of hiring the entire venue is also advertised so be warned that it may sometimes be closed without warning. The website advertises a quiz that is held every second Tuesday, but I saw no advertisements for this during my recent Friday afternoon visit.
The interior comprises an open plan front seating area strewn with café type seating and a small bar in the right rear corner. To the rear is a games area that houses two gaming machines and a pool table. At the very rear steps lead up to a kitchen and more seating.
I was surprised to see an operational hand pump on the bar that was drawing Longman Brewery’s Best. I was less surprised to see a premium keg range that consisted of Pilsner Urquell, Estrella, Kozel, Kronenburg, Punk IPA, Guinness and Stowford Press Cider. There is also a cocktail menu. I found the service to be slow, but very friendly.
This isn’t the most atmospheric place I’ve ever been and I do not plan to rush back anytime soon.
