E TA left this review about Tynte Arms

An out-of-the-way pub, a traditional village pub which appears stuck in a previous century. It stands in its own grounds on the edge of a hamlet, in a picturesque setting by a nearby reservoir, well away from the tourist trail. The 19th Century house has been partially knocked through to for a long sitting and dining area at the front, with the bar area at the rear, also formed from conjoining rooms. The décor and atmosphere are dated; these combine with the average age of the regular clientele to make it feel a bit like the waiting room of a funeral parlour. The floors are carpeted, Initially on entering we were given a bit of a frosty reception, but eventually the landlord – 80 years old at his next birthday, he informed us, and somewhat vague – came over and chatted. The young waitresses were less friendly. A visiting family also joined us, somewhat unexpectedly, but it was good natured and convivial. There was no wifi and no obvious sporting distraction or entertainment. There was only one ale on, Butcombe Original, which was in poor condition and hideously overpriced. Keg choices were Holsten Vier, Guinness and a few Thatcher’s ciders. Food was standard pub fare, again overpriced, and served with a sneer. The scenery in the area was impressive, but I can’t see myself coming back just for the pub.
