A large barn of a place with long tables aimed at student groups sharing. There's no real ale and on my Sunday evening visit. no customers either. Probably it's normal market having gone home for the weekend or something. I had a half of fizz and made a quick exit. I'll never visit here again!

the sign now just says 'The Scholar'. no real ale today either though two hand pumps remain. I quite like the decor but with hardly anyone in and rubbish beer I can't think of any reason to come back here with much better pubs nearby. hope it stays open if only for the banter on the blackboard outside though.

Sadly this place seems to be struggling. Real ale has gone.

Brand new place not far from the Roscoe Head and Dispensary pubs. Located on the corner of Oldham St and Roscoe St and opposite a newly built student accommodation block. Its made up of a large room split into two. The area as you enter houses the bar and there is a larger area further back. Lots of wood and bare brick make up the decor. The bar area has high tables and chairs and the rear area has long wooden benches and tables. 2 handpumps on the bar with a reversed clip and Thornbridge Jaipur being on today. There are also assorted lager-a-like beers available. Its not too bad a place and is obviously going to be popular with students.
