Nottingham's first purpose built micro pub that is celebrating its 1st anniversary. This is a one roomed pub, which is quite industrial in design and décor. The owner told us that the floor is aluminium sheets used mostly in lining the floor of haulage trailers. A stainless steel pot shelf ran around the perimeter of the room and the bar front was formed from concrete shuttering and the granite bar counter formed from two pieces of granite was shipped over from the Lake District. Eight handpumps serving 6 ales and 2 ciders, the beer choice on our visit wasn't very inspirational, so we ended up going for the Oakham Citra, prices were reasonable at £3 a pint.

Down an alley to a one roomed pub with the bar to the left. Eight hand pumps, one reversed. Nothing of great strength. Possible revisit to see if that improves.

This pub has been well described by Aqualung below. To judge by the state of the handwriting in my notebook, I must have had a few by the time I got here, so I'll content myself with saying that I had no trouble finding it, it's a modern, brick-built bar that apparently shares the micropub ethos and I had a half of Abstract Jungle Casual, which is apparently a stout. To be fair, I can't remember what it was like, but I'm sure I would have written something about it if it had been awful, so let's say it was pretty good.

This isn't the easiest of places to find as it's set down a small alleyway opposite the HSBC bank. Apparently it's a modern purpose built pub that opened in August 2017. All the signage I saw said Mellor's Mews Free House but their facebook page does say micropub. It's certainly a proper micropub in that there are real ales & ciders, no TVs and limited opening hours. Because it has been purpose built it's much more like a small bar or pub than the usual shop conversion. Inside it's a roughly square room with the bar along the left side, mostly low tables and chairs, a few sofas and bar stools at the bar. Behind the bar is presumably a purpose built cellar that feeds the eight hand pumps and six keg fonts. There are a few picnic tables outside in front of the glass doors. Although it was almost empty when I arrived it was quite busy by the time I left.
The eight hand pumps hold two ciders and six beers. The beers were Abstract Jungle Casual Stout, Oakham JHB & Citra, Castle Rock Elsie Mo, Shiny Happy People and Yeovil Ruby. I went for the Casual Stout and the Happy People (Both £3.00) which were in excellent condition.
Whether it's a free house or a micropub, this place is well worth a visit.
