Well described by A&H below. It's really just a huge café bar with very little in the way of features, but it does have a good selection of ale, although some are a bit on the pricey side. Having said that my pint of Wensleydale Pale was a reasonable £3.40. My latest visit was in September when the outside terrace was a real suntrap. Not sure I'd bother again unless it was sunny or they had something really unusual on the bar.

Having heard mixed reports about this place, from various sources, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was actually very pleasantly surprised. Okay, it’s definitely not a pub, but I think the melding of a traditional building and a modern architectural space works really well. On entering from Blackledge, the bar is to the left, with a pleasant outdoor terrace to the right, accessed through the ceiling height windows, which flood the building with light. Seating is provided by a good number of large dining tables and chairs.
At the bar, four ales were available on hand-pull and the two I tried: Vocation ‘Life & Death’ and Nightjar ‘Moloko’ were both in very good condition. As regards pricing, a round of two pints and four halves came in at around £16.00, which struck me as very reasonable for this type of venue. Staff were young and pleasant and there was a nice mellow buzz on the sunny Friday afternoon we called.
I can see how the Square Chapel Bar won’t appeal to everyone, but I would almost certainly call again next time I’m in town. It’s not the sort of place for an extended session, but it’s definitely worth popping in for one, when on a crawl in the centre. CAMRA Pub of the Season (Winter) 2018/19.

From the outside it is hard to believe that this is a pub, more like a multistorey car park attached to a chapel. Unlike most pubs in the town, this is a very large hall.
Looking at the pump clips saying "Mango", "Creme Bearlee" and "Rhubarb", I was beginning to wonder if they sold Beer! The Chord Blond Ale was very good at a reasonable £3.60. One or two others were around the same price but some were priced around the £5 to £6 mark for not particularly strong beer. Best to check the prices first on the large chalk board above the bar.

Mrs A wanted to visit this café/bar for some reason. It soon backfired when I was charged £5.20 for a pint of Salopian Slipstream 5.1%, in fact all the beers in here were overpriced. I don't mind the arty types that frequent these sort of places, but one guy came past our table and started looking at my maps and notes, didn't say a word and then went on his way. Would I ever return? No.

Newly opened cafe / bar, part of a major refurbishment of the arts centre. Open daily to the public, with alcohol being served from midday. Four cask ales available, plus craft beers and cider.
