The Curious tavern is actually the bar for the Mercure Hotel and can be accessed from either the hotel reception or a small external door on Broad Street.

The hotel is one of the oldest in the city and has changed hands a good few times in my life.

As mentioned below, the pub has a couple of hand pulls on the bar. On my last visit it had Harvest Pale and something from Totally Brewed. Far better places to go for a beer within spitting distance, don't loiter in here too long.

The window in the floor actually gives you a view into the caves that riddle Nottingham. These specific caves are part of Lost Property, which is a bar around the corner on Goose Gate and is part of the same bar chain as the Curious. This is a cocktail and fizzy beer place that is actually worth a visit for the environment. You won't find any signs telling you where it is but the presence of a bouncer in the evening gives it away.

Lost property is on three subterranean levels, the best of which are the caves. It is a one in/one out place due to strict H&S requirements because of the limited access.

Next to the Mercure Hotel and a door at the far right opens into it. Dimly lit place with the bar on the left. Three hand pumps with the strongest being Blue Monkey Infinity @ 4.5% ABV. There is a glass window overlooking the cellar which was quite disconcerting if you didn't know it was there.

A fairly run-of-the-mill pub. 2 roomed with the larger room having booths and tables. There were 3 real ales available with 2 offering Castle Rock beers and the other Bombardier on my visit. I didn't go in the smaller room so I've no idea what its like.

The Curious Tavern is a new adition to the Nottingham drinking scene and comes from the peole who have brough the curious amnnor and Curious Townhosue to Nottignham. Those two offeirngs are more bars while the Tavern is more pub based(thank god). Located at the top of hockley in a verey busy area with lots of other bars around it you enter off the street through an entrace that is dark green and has some low lit lights giving it a sheek look. The bar is on the left as you enetr with a large room with lots of seats and booths and a smaller room with the same. The decor is quite modern but hipster and rustic looking that is quite nice and there is lound msuic playing as this is a more of a night-time venue although I think it does open in the day. The main bar was a lot like a pub and aside from the keg pumps had three ales avaibale which were Harvest Pale, Blue Monkey Gurilla and Springhead Brwery Angel. I had the Angel that was served in a dimple mug and was a whopping £3.80 (a lot for Nottignham) and sadly a trend that more of these bars are starting to adopt that I think people should take a stand agaist but I guess it is a late night veneue and is to be expected. The beer was fairly good and we sat and chateed over the music and young people who were all shouting. I don’t minfd this place too much as I could sit and enjoy a real ale late at night in an enviroment that is as close to a pub as I proabbaly will get at this housr so I can can commend it for that. I wouldent choose to come somewrre like this uslaly but if ever around late at night and you want a decent beer and not have to satnd this is at least a viable option. Not the greatest but the real ale helps and if out with women or late at night I might be tempted to come abck.
