Subterranean bar in Sunbridgewells tunnels, right at the bottom of the complex. Enter to a semi-industrial main bar with a long brick vaulted seating area leading off. As mentioned below, there’s a collection of oddities to be seen. Four ales on, my Bosun's Maiden was a bit flat (NBSS 2.5) and I was the only person on the real stuff. Friendly barman gave me a booklet on the history of the tunnels. Worth a look in for the unusual.

Re-visited last Friday afternoon, following the easing of restrictions. Hand sanitiser is still available by the entrance but mask wearing does not seem to be a requirement. It felt nice to be able to walk up to the bar, cast my eye over the pumps, make my choice, pay, and make my way to a seat with my drink. Payment can be made via cash or card. Service was friendly.

Four hand pulls for cask, one of which had a cider on offer, I didn't note the other options but I went for the Bosun's Maiden Voyage at £1.30 for a half. This was in fine condition.

On the bottom floor of the Sunbridge Wells complex, this is a very interesting bar. It's effectively two long tunnels under the arches of a vault. It would takes ages to spot every idiosyncratic bit of the décor. There's are skeletons, pots of gold and a giant glass box that looks like Dr Jekyll's or Frankenstein's laboratory. I spent quite some time wandering around here with a pint of well kept Bosun's King Neptune in my hand from one of the three handpumps, whilst listening to the 80's soundtrack. I'll definitely call in here again and will no doubt spot loads more bits & pieces.

If you enter from Ivegate, Wallers is down two flights of stairs right down into the tunnels. This was a proper cool underground dungeon with lovely arched brickwork. Absolutely no phone signal down there but if you really need it there is W-Fi of the type that you have to sign in with a social media account or email address. There seems to be a theme of skeletons in alcoves and general curios in nooks and crannies.

Down to business, at the bar are three hand pumps for cask ale, all were on at the time of my Friday lunchtime visit yesterday offering Cloud 9 by Salamander, Saltaire Blonde, and a brown ale by Bosun's - possibly Maiden Voyage.

I had the Cloud 9 and was tempted to stay and try the brown ale too, but I had a few other places to visit so decided to move on. Very glad I visited this place though, it is definitely different and well worth a visit.

The best of the Sunbridge Wells lot. Three hand pumps but nothing above 4.2% ABV. Eight kegs. Toilets are actually near here.

In the 60's this used to be a nightclub called The Little Fat Black Pussycat but has been closed ever since. Phase one opened in December 2016 and at least they got there priorities right by fitting the bars first.Work is still on the go and the boutique shops must be coming later.
As OB points out this is a tight complicated labyrinth of steel staircases and corridors which could possibly cause problems at busy times.
Wallers Brewery was by far the largest of the 6 bars here with plenty of space and seating, although I was slightly disappointed with the Cask beer selection of which there was only 2.
According to one of the barmen another bar will be opening in a couple of months called The Rose and Crown with 9 hand pulls.

Old Boots left this review about Wallers Brewery

Sunbridge Wells is a leisure development in a set of old tunnels under Bradford city centre, they were I believe originally used to store wool. There are five more or less interconnected bars in the complex but only Wallers Brewery sells cask beers. The Gin Bar, Multimedia Bar (sometimes called Laurel & Hardy due to the window design) and Alibi are all very different to each other, unusual and not just due to the unique location either. Each bar takes up several brick vaults in the complex and are reached by a confusing array of steel staircases and narrow passages.
