What can I say - a pub or should I say hotel, with distinct character! Local novelty value - Alfred Hitchcock was born in the area, the son of a butcher (1899.) My mother has enjoyed many of his films. I have only had the occasional pint in passing, but enjoyed the experience none the less! Nice greenery opposite if you want a leisurely walk afterwards. Thanks...

Set back from Whipps Cross road and part of a terrace, this is named after Leytonstone's most famous son and predictably has plenty of paraphernalia regaling his illustrious directorial career. Accessed up a flight of stairs, it's all very woody and bricky inside and a small corridor and a left-hand turn bring you to the narrow bar area (the bar is on the left) which L-shaped around the to the left again, with a further cosy room located behind the bar with a large bay window overlooking the road and the Epping Forest common opposite. A function room is located opposite the bar and appears to be a newish addition - almost as if a terrace had been roofed over. The sole real ale was Sharp's Doom Bar Amber on two handpumps. A dining area is located to the right-hand side of the building and there was much fanfare about their Sunday roasts, available at £10 a pop. Hardly a destination venue, but if you're into your films, you might consider sticking your head through the door if anything.
