David Ross left this review about La Taverna Bar and Ristorante

As should be obvious from the name, this is an Italian bar and restaurant. Its main business is undoubtedly the restaurant and take-away, but there is an adjoining bar where you can just have a drink, whether you're waiting for a meal or not. My pint of Cairngorm Stag was the most expensive I'd bought in town, at £4.20, and Guinness, Magners cider and Tennent's and (Italian) Menabrea lagers were also on draught.

The bar walls are festooned with Italian, mainly football themed, memorabilia, including pennants from several Serie A clubs and a huge photo of their 2006 World Cup winning team. Some of the staff were either genuinely Italian, or of Italian descent, or were feigning the accent very convincingly.
Although it is open to everyone, the bar is probably mainly used by people waiting to be seated for meals, or for a take-away. If you're just looking for a drink, there are better pubs not far away in the town centre.
