Will Larter left this review about The Red Lion

A smart, modernised village local just outside the old town centre, and usefully signposted at the end of the road. It looks like there has been a recent refurbishment, with the exterior looking smart and lots of contemporary features inside, like the really annoying high tables with stools in the bar to the left, and the slightly too fussy dining tables and chairs in the lounge to the right. There are two hand pumps, but one of the beers had gone off and not been replaced, which left Black Sheep Bitter. The beer was in good condition, but inexpertly poured by the young woman serving: her first attempt left a good three centimetres of froth at the top, which she was quick to top up without having to be asked, but it still wasn't by any means a full pint. (She's more used to serving Stella Artois, to judge by what the other customers were drinking.) I saw no sign of a Camra discount, but I didn't think of looking as it didn't seem like that sort of pub. I imagine Tuesday afternoon would be one of the quietest times of the week, so I wouldn't want to mark the place down for having no atmosphere; on the other hand, with live sports on TV, not to mention karaoke and quiz nights, I'm not convinced I'd like it a whole lot better when it's rocking.
