Moby Duck left this review about Staggeringly Good Brewery Bar

Typical industrial estate brewery and due to planning failure on my part the place was heaving with pre-match football goers with both Pompey and Plymouth in good natured form. A few decent beers were on and given the nature of the day served in plastic glasses, a pet hate but understandable. Not sure if I'll commit to the walk back again at a quieter time.

The Staggeringly Good Brewery is a tap on an industrial estate and was the last point of call on a recent Friday crawl of the area. The beers are dispensed from the rear wall by a couple of young ladies, there is no bar to prop up against. A televisions screen to the left of the beer wall displays the available brews. I had a couple of ales which were very tasty and the Pubs Galore group I was with all seemed to rate their beers. To be honest I would have preferred to be in a proper pub so I think I will leave this place to the hip beersters in the future.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Staggeringly Good Brewery Bar

Industrial units with the main tap and brewery kit in one, another bar with distinctly odd church-like stained glass panels at the far end of another and a small seating area outside at the front. Offers craft keg beers in a range of styles (but I failed to take a note of whatever I had, although I recall it being tasty enough despite being served very cold).

E TA left this review about Staggeringly Good Brewery Bar

A rather industrial brewery bar consisting of an outside drinking area, a large mock-Gothic hall and a tap bar. It was quite pleasant to sit outside, but not very comfortable inside. The staff were easy on the eye but rather amateurish, while the clientele are a truly mixed bag. It has more of a nightclub feel than brewery tap atmosphere, despite the presence of brewery equipment and large storage vessels, and you could be foregiven for thinking you had accidentally wandered into a Croatian bordello. The beer glasses were a bit annoying, and surprisingly for a brewery, their beers were slightly overchilled. I tried three of their dinosaur-themed beers – Staggersaurus, ThaiRanno Citrus and Dawn Stealer, which were in good condition, as you might expect. One local took umbrage at our opinions, but then he shouldn’t have been eavesdropping. Ordinarily I enjoy visiting breweries, but I don’t think I’m going to stagger back to this one, not because there’s anything wrong with it, but because their beers aren’t really to my taste.

All craft keg on our visit, with all of the beers being unfined and vegan friendly. Beers were dispensed from a red brick wall, with a brightly lit keg tap console in the brewing shed on the right. The beer board was positioned on a screen on the left hand side of the keg wall, displaying the name and types of beers and prices. Two girls were running the proceedings, one took your plastic payment, no cash accepted, whilst the other poured your beer. There was a queue of us when we arrived and woe betide if you weren't standing in order as you were told to get out of the way by the bossy girl taking your money. This place also had a second room on the left along with bar and a gothic stained glass window effect wall, which was hip and trendy. I have to say my New England IPA was very good and not overly priced like some Brewery bars, such as Cloudwater Manchester.

Last stop of an extensive Portsmouth crawl and I was staggering by this stage. This is a large ,two bar drinking hole in an industrial unit down a scruffy industrial estate, but popular with the young and hip. Most punters will be drinking vertically and there is a wide choice of the craft keg output from the brew kit in the unit, all displayed on TV screens and served quite efficiently by a young crew.
I though my choice of a swift half of their New England IPA was very good and one of the better beers on the crawl, but my visit was so brief I failed to notice whether there were any other positives to highlight.I may return one day at a quieter time with more time to explore their beer range.I can imagine it would be rammed when Pompey are playing at home.

Graham Coombs left this review about Staggeringly Good Brewery Bar

As well as the original bar described below, a new larger taproom has opened alongside fitted with large stained glass panels giving something of a church effect, while a small tabled outdoor area has been added. Furnishings remain of the industrial type with spartan decor. Beers are now all on keg however, plus bottles and tins of course. It seemed very popular, despite being tucked away in the back corner of industrial units. Ok for the novelty value but I don't think I would make it a regular haunt.

Pub SignMan left this review about Staggeringly Good Brewery Bar

Set in an unpromising industrial estate behind Fratton Park, this small bar opened earlier this year, forming part of a nice little set-up comprising the brewery, shop and bar for the cumbersomely named Staggeringly Good Brewery. The arrangement is typical of this sort of industrial unit based brewery, with the majority of the space to the left and rear used for the brewing process, whilst a small designated area allows customers to try some of the output at source. You enter through a doorway into a very compact space with a serving counter opposite, presumably used for off sales. Various CAMRA magazines and beer books have been stacked here for customer's perusal, but to get to the beer, you need to pass the right side of the counter into a space which open out towards the actual brewery. Here you'll find tables made from old cable spools and seats formed of padded casks plus a Ping-Pong table to the front. The right wall has been covered with black tiles and ivy leaves twine around the ceiling beams so that, faced in the right direction, you can actually start to lose sight of the fact you're sat in an industrial estate. Blues music played throughout my visit and there was a guitar propped in one corner for customers to strum out a tune or two. The brewery has a dinosaur theme, so quirky little dinosaur-related touches pop up here and there, such as the 'Danger' sign preventing access to the brew plant, which shows a man being eaten by a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The unisex toilet was remarkably well appointed, very clean and spacious and had framed articles on the walls on subjects such as the London Beer Flood, Women & Beer and Reinheitsgebot amongst other things.
The rear wall of the tap room has four keg taps and two handpulls for cask ales, each topped with a model dinosaur to represent which beer is on. Not being familiar with their range, a patient barman talked me through them all before I plumped for a pint of Staggersaurus - a session ale on keg that set me back £3.50. The beer was a little hazy but drank pretty well. A full bottled range could be viewed in a set of fridges to the front of the bar.
I've been to a fair few bars like this in various industrial units and railway arches around the country, but this was a particularly good example of how such a venue can be presented. I found the set-up innovative and smart, the dinosaur theme quite good fun and the service extremely friendly. My only question mark would be around the beer - I feel I'd need to try a few more to make a sound judgement on that. An enjoyable visit and being within convenient staggering distance from Fratton Park, it makes a good pre-match option.
