An impressive Tudorbethian building, formerly the Grammar School and with a blue plaque and statue celebrating Thomas Chippendale who was born in the town, that's the furniture designer not a bloke who started a dance troup. It's a fairly bare single room with mezzanine seating area above reached by a spiral staircase. 6 pulls (4 in use on a Friday afternoon), with beers from Yorkshire and beyond (Anarchy from Northumberland among them), there's reasonable keg lineup with some better continental and UK Brewers being represented. Modern metal bases with scaf board tops to the tables, benches down one side and tall stools elsewhere. Beware the dreaded handled jug is the default beer glass, although no doubt they would refer to it as ale.

Decided to visit this venue today and we're not disappointed. The building is lovely. Inside is nicely done out. We found the food and drink were excellent as was the service. Will definitely visit again.
