Not easy to find and tucked away from the tourist throng, this is a great micropub run by a beer enthusiast .It's an old shop but nicely done with the ceiling full of pump clips from the rotating selection, fairy lighting around the top of the walls and high tables with various stools making good use of the limited space. There is a corridor with more overflow seating on the way to the unisex loo.
The bar runs along the back wall and has 4 handpumps and a few more keg taps.On my trip the ale line up was Peerless Oatmeal Stout,Sanoma Pale and a very well kept Kirkstall Three Swords, while the keg selection had higher ABV options but well chosen from leading microbrewers plus sparkling ciders. My big finish after a small crawl around the city was Northern Monk Faith on keg,a top pint.
It's popular and chatty and it's easy to fall into conversations with regulars and the owner, who gets some grief for being a manc and supporting Man City.He did however choose a very good soundtrack played at a sensible volume.
This is a must visit when in Chester ,a fun place to visit and a leading example of all that's good in a micro pub.It attracts a wide range of ages and is thankfully not the preserve of the local CAMRA branch although it is listed in the 2019 GBG.Go visit.

Visited on Saturday evening. The front room was very busy, as you would probably expect for a micro pub so close to a city centre. Thankfully there was a small room to the side/rear to provide a bit of extra space and this is where we retreated to. There was a TV showing sports in the main bar (unusual for a micro pub) so we didn't want to be standing in the way of that. I'd say it had the atmosphere of a small bar rather than a micro but that was probably due to it being busy.

Four cask ales at the bar, one of which was off, there was some keg stuff too. I went for Peverel by Thornbridge (on cask) which was decent.

Two room micro, square front room with counter serving cask , keg and spirits, the back room is triangular and full of seating and art works , some with price tickets and includes a couple of deliciously politically incorrect beer ads, which may be genuine or there to wind up snowflakes. The unisex toilet is also located back here. Mixed clientele of students and some stereotypical older beer fans.

A two-roomed micropub in the student backstreets past the awful concrete flyover that bisects this bit of town. The blue walled and wood wainscotted front bar is really small and cluttered with high stools and tables, meaning you get in everyone's way which made for an awkward 15 minutes, not helped by bar blockers, a pet hate of mine. Four cask from Black Jack (NBSS 3), Heavy Industry, Salopian and Black Edge, plus some ciders. I didn’t really enjoy this one, a good pub is for relaxing in and this one doesn’t work when it’s even moderately busy.

A 2 roomed micropub. 4 handpumps on the bar dispensing a varied and usually interesting selection of local and not too far breweries. A pleasant place and worth the walk out from the main Chester drag.
