A splendid little place in a low-rise retail unit with lots of life, at least on a sunny afternoon with many families and groups of drinkers packed into the inside room and the outdoor terrace.
It definitely feels more family-friendly than the average pub. There was a good range of their own brews, plus three changing guests. Some people may not like it, but it was good for me.

Six years since the previous review and good to find this micro brewery still going. Not many differences from the review below except that it now also opens on a Wednesday from 4.00pm ( still shut on a Mon and Tuesday though) and the outside drinking space is now a decent permanent space under substantial gazebos.
Beer still mainly from the barrel although there are a couple of taps on the serving area. For my visit the breweries Garden City Blonde and Bitter, Talus Pale and El Dorado IPA were on ( most at £4.20 a pint) and then Big Smoke Cosmic Dawn and Plateau Burning Sky were on as guest ales. There also seemed to be some sort of tie-up with Mad Squirrel at the moment as five of their beers were available in keg form. Then also a decent range of ciders from boxes behind the bar.
This was the best venue I visited for ale choice in Letchworth, which basically tells you all you need to know about Letchworth

Situated in a small parade of arts and crafts shop, this conversion from an art studio and gallery is now the home to the Garden City Brewery. It's a modern building with lots of windows giving good internal sunlight, the bar faces you on entering, while to the side is quite a large tiled area where some sofas and a mix of wooden furniture offers seating.Behind the bar in a former kitchen is the brewing kit ,and bags of malt and empty casks are dotted around the interior. On my visit there was terrestrial TV for Wimbledon and the Euros ,but thats not instrusive and doesnt detract from the drinking atmosphere.Outside under a canopy is a large seating area ,hay bales are used on one side as seating, along with benches and tables. On the internal walls there were some Hogarth prints,a few posters and an old map of Letchworth before the Garden City. It's been well done, although there is still a feel of drinking in a canteen,it may all take time to weather in.
The landlady was very friendly and loved chatting about her ales and she offers tasters, nice touch. There are barrels racked up on stillage and on my trip the "home" ales were Amarillo Pale (very good),Mash Up (an average porter) and Next Best (described as a best bitter 4.4%);all at the very reasonable price of £3.20pp Three guests ales from Buntingford were Squadron 92,Iron Duke and Sun Star with some other barrels settling. On the bar there were 3 boxes of real cider, there is a list of cans and bottles from craft brewers plus a selection of wines and soft drinks.Food comprises locally sourced pork pies , sausage rolls and other pub snacks.
LGC has never been a great place for real ale ,so this is a terrific addition to the scene .I will return in future and it is probably the best bet for a well kept pint. For a new micro, the Amarillo Pale I had was impressive ,and there is a firm commitment here to aim high.A bit larger than your average micropub, yet I've marked it as such given the shop conversion, restricted opening Thur -Sun noon-10pm, positive vibe and focus on real ale.
