Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Grayston Unity

Unusual for a micro-pub in that the ceiling seems higher than the space is long or wide... Anyway, the original layout has been modified so that the side 'lounge' is now combined with the bar, with a single small table in the 'snug' back left. However, on a warm summer evening, most of the customers were sat in the late sunshine at tables across the street by the town hall. Four handpumps on the compact counter, with Mallinson's Simcoe (£3.70) and beers from Goose Eye, Blue Bee and Parkway.

Micropub housed in a small and shabby oblong room. Faintly unbelievably it’s also a live music venue with a teeny stage to the left – I couldn’t see how you could fit more than about 25 punters in once a band was set-up (and there’s no entry to the place when one is on unless you purchase a ticket – I snuck in seconds before the metaphorical barrier came down). Four cask on, my Small World Secret was really rather good (NBSS 4) even if I did have to imbibe it outside in the rainy courtyard, so worthy of its GBG’22 listing. Also a variety of craftykegs and bottles. Serves a function in town and the quality of my beer means I’d be happy to recommend it as part of a town centre crawl. 7.5

Following lockdown there have been some structural changes, it now comprises just one room with a slight snug area at the back to the left of the counter. Thankfully the beer range is still interesting and the quality remains high. Visiting on a Sunday we enjoyed some excellent blues from a talented musician.

Like two or three other pubs in Halifax, this pub didn't look particularly inviting from the outside. On entering, it looked like a traditional local that had been here for years. The bar at the end of the narrow room led through to a hallway with a small quaintly furnished room to the left. The Elland Nettle Thrasher was on fine form.

We really enjoyed our visit here and managed to get a seat at the end of a table near the bar. Five handpumps along the small rear bar, plus a choice of pork pies and samosas. I went for the Goose Eye Chinook, which was in excellent condition and went hand in hand, with a vegetable samosa. Prices in here were also good, l paid £3.10 for my pint.

Well described by OB below. I would only add that the pub is quite easy to find either from Broad Street (if coming from the Pump Room micropub) or from Commercial Street (if coming from the Victorian Cafe or the Alexandra). I enjoyed the slightly chaotic mix of random rooms and ad hoc furnishings, which somehow add up successfully to a welcoming and comfortable pub. Though I can imagine it wouldn't float everyone's boat. Beer was in very good condition and served enthusiastically. There was an interesting choice of music (reggae and ska while I was here) and a friendly atmosphere.

As described below by OB. There's also a small outside area with 4 tables and chairs where they have live music. It was pleasantly busy on our Thursday evening visit with lots of chat going on. Goose Eye beers are the house brew here plus 2 changing guests. My pint of Saltaire Solaris was in good nick. We'll certainly be calling in here again.

Halifax's latest (first?) micropub, located just outside the Town Hall next to the car park barrier. One very tall narrow room with the counter at the back, to the side is a small ante chamber leading to the unisex toilet, this room is furnished with a bench to one side and a chair. There is an elegant sitting room at the front with easy chairs and a sofa the room is lit by a chandelier and a big window looking out at the Town Hall. There is a selection of bored games in one corner. The main bar is all tongue and groove, the seating hard wooden chairs at wooden tables and the floor is old floor boards. A large map of Paris adorns one wall of the bar. Three pulls and a Berliner Pilsner fount sit on the counter and there are four keg taps on the bar-back, there are lots of bottles in the single fridge a selection of wines and a loaded shelf of spirits naturally mostly gins. The cask beers, which were excellent, came from Goose Eye and other local breweries. Very different to many micro pubs and the quirky building has a very 19th century feel which is well worth experiencing.
